Description
An immediate vacancy has arisen at Novatek Animal Feeds, a subsidiary company of Zambeef Products Plc. for the position of Health and Safety Officer. We therefore invite applications from suitably qualified candidates meeting the necessary qualifications.
Main Functions
To co-ordinate, support and advise the Business on all aspects with regards to Health and Safety. To establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health and Safety within set standards are adhered to.
Reporting lines
The position shall have a dual reporting to the Operations Manager and General Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities of the role shall be but not limited to:
- Ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health.
- Ensure that all Health and Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered and to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
- Ensure the Company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.
- Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessment for all work equipment and operation.
- Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented.
- Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed and employees are aware of their responsibilities.
- Ensure full and accurate health and safety and training records are maintained.
- Establish a full program of documented health and safety inspections, audits and checks.
- Establish a structured program of health and safety training throughout the Company.
- Liaise with external health and safety consultants in the provision of training programs and health and safety services (if required).
- Keep up to date all aspects of relevant health, safety and welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business.
- Provide regular reports to the Operations Manager / Senior Management on relevant health and safety activities.
- Immediately stop any unsafe practice in the operation and report to senior management
- Ensure all visitors to the operating area of the plant are briefed on health and safety rules and safety gear is issued too these visitors
- Any other duties which may be required by management from time to time
Qualifications
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate
- Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Handling of H&S investigations
- Experience of formulating, implementing and revising H&S policies and procedures
- 3 – 5 years’ relevant experience in a similar role.
- Member of Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
