Description
We are looking for a Research Assistant whom will be involve in the implementation of the genetic breeding program, based in Lusaka in liaison with field staff at National Aquaculture Research and Development Centre (NARDC) in Mwekera. This is line with the Genetic improvement program of the indigenous Orechromis andersonii and related project activities under the Zambia Aquaculture Development Enterprise Project (ZAEDP).
The successful candidate is expected to work closely with assigned field and office staff to deliver integrated solutions to accelerate sustainable growth of aquaculture in Zambia.
Responsibilities:
- Support technical coordination and supervision of fieldwork for the ZAEDP project.
- Support preparation of project work plans, budgets and monitoring of project progress.
- Support preparation of research reports and papers by technical partners.
- Support national, regional and continental stakeholder consultations, research/science platforms and policy dialogues.
- Support country and regional tracking of impact of research and technologies.
- Collation, storage and maintenance of electronic project database and respond to donor and senior management data queries efficiently.
- Maintain project progress reports, mid-term review including the annual narrative report.
- Administrative support to the ZAEDP project and the Zambia Office.
Collect project data and samples for genetic analysis from hatcheries and farms as instructed by the project leader.
Requirements
This job is open to nationals applicants with the following skills and qualifications:
- At least a Diploma in Agriculture, Aquaculture and fisheries or its equivalent. Applicants with equivalent higher education and/or experience in rural development are also encourage to apply.
- Relevant working experience in aquaculture/fisheries and/or rural development, with proven experience in project implementation, monitoring and coordination.
- Strong research methods skills with ability to draft research concepts, reports and publications.
- Experience in working with industry partners including government, farmer associations, farmers, hatchery operators, development partners, and donors.
- Ability to think clearly and analytically, setting priority, meeting deadlines, solving problems and making timely decision.
- Ability to research, plan, implement technical programmes related to your work area.
- Knowledge in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Proficient in English language both verbal and written. - Ability to work under minimum supervision.
Salary and Benefits
This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with a annual salary ranging from ZMW 111,875 to ZMW 137,592. WorldFish’s NRS shall receive comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, and pension / provident fund contribution.
Our Offer
This position will be based at WorldFish’s office in Lusaka Zambia. Interviews are expected to be held in June 2019 and only shortlisted candidate will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful candidate should be available to commence as soon as possible for an initial 1 year fixed term contract, with the possibility of contract renewal depending on performance and funding situation.
