Description
The University of North Carolina – Global Projects Zambia (UNC-GPZ) is conducting a study to exhaustively document the course and outcomes of labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period in settings where the occurrence of adverse birth outcomes is high. The Medical Scribe will be directly responsible for clearly documenting each patient’s labour course from enrollment through delivery and transfer, including but not limited to exam findings, medications administered, provider actions, and diagnoses.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (include but are not limited to the following):
Study Procedures
- Observe and document every action, diagnosis, and medication for each study participant from admission to transfer using a tablet-based data collection system.
- Complete data collection forms.
- Ensure accuracy of data collected by confirming with clinicians as required.
- Ensure that all data from source documents are accurately captured in the data system.
- Respond to queries from the study team.
- Maintain strict participant confidentiality and privacy at all times.
- Be accountable and responsible for study resources and supplies, such as study tablets and barcode scanners, participant files, study equipment, and facilities.
Communication
- Communicate with fellow staff members openly and honestly about study progress, issues, and/or problems that may arise.
- Actively participate in problem solving.
- Work collegially as part of the study team.
- Effectively collaborate with UTH staff as necessary.
- Provide high quality service to participants by maintaining pleasant and professional relationships at all times and attending to participants in a timely manner.
- Be responsive to enquiries from participants’ partners and family members as required.
Training
- Acquire and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the study protocol.
- Regularly attend study meetings.
- Complete all required study training, including routine Human Subject Protection and
- Good Clinical Practices training.
Other
- Attend workshops, conferences and other meetings as requested.
- Attend to any other duties as required to ensure the accurate and confidential management of participant data.
SPECIAL SKILLS/COMPETENCES
- Display strong work ethic, motivation, and enthusiasm.
- Must have excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills
- Must be accurate and perform high quality work at all times
- Ability to work with deadlines
- Demonstrated experience working with computers and data
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma in a health or data related field with at least 1 year of relevant work experience
- Demonstrated experience working with medical providers and allied health professionals
