Description
The Tropical Diseases Research Centre is a National Health Research Institution established by Act of parliament No. 31 of 1982 under the Ministry of Health. The Centre is mandated to conduct research and training in Tropical Diseases and other diseases of national health impottance such as HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis and other Opportunistic infections. The Centre has continued to embrace a multi-disciplinary team of experts including medical scientific and non-medical staff to execute its functions in order to fulfil its mandate.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced pesons who are self-motivated and result oriented to fill the following vacancies:
1. Scientific Officer – Immunology
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Full Grade Twelve School Certificate
- MSc in Immunology
- PhD in Immunology will be an added advantage
- A min imum of three years’ experience in the Medical Microbiology field
- Practical experience in a Medical Microbiology laboratory
- Registration with Health Professions Council of Zambia preferably
- Female candidates are encouraged to apply
Main Duties
- To formulate end patticipate in formulating competitive research proposals for research grants.
- To implement and monitor the Quality Management System to ensure the laboratory attain and
maintain ISO 15189 Accreditation. - To supervise all activities in the Immunology sections including supervision of subordinates.
- To ensure effective petformance of essential Immunology laboratory tests and production of reliable and precise results
- To ensure correct interpretation of research diagnostic, and epidemiological results
- To supervise the development and maintenance of advanced Standard Operating Procedures(SOPs) and use of standard laboratory equipment
- To perform data collection, data analysis and reporting duties
- To participate in formulating policy docu ments
- To participate in undertaking Monitoring and Evaluation activities
- To perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
2. Scientific Officer – Haematology
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Full Grade Twelve School Certificate
- A Masters Degree in Haematology
- A PhD in the field of Haematology wili be an added advantage
- A min imum of three yea rs’ experience in the Haematoiogy field
- Registration with Health Professions Council of Zambia
- Female candidates are encouraged to apply

- To formulate ane write qualitative and quantitative research proposals.
- To facilitate and take part in data collection, carry out data analysis and report writing.
- Manage subordinates’ research and administrative activities as assigned by the Head of Department.
3. Scientific Officer – Parasitology
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
(a) Full Grade Twelve School Certificate
(b) Master in either of the following:
- Parasitology
- Basic science with a major in parasitology
- A PhD will be an added advantage
- A min imum of three years’ experience in Parasitology or related field
- Registration with Health Professions Council of Zambia
- Female candidates are encouraged to apply

- To formulate and write qualitative and quantitative research proposals.
- To facilitate and take part in data collection, carry out data analysis and report writing.

4. Scientific Officer – Entomology
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
(c) Full Grade Twelve School Cettificate
(d) Master in either of the following:
- Entomology
- Basic science with a major in Entomology
- A PhD will be an added advantage
- A minimum of three years’ experience in Entomology or related field
- Female candidates are encouraged to apply
