Social Media and Editorial Intern at The Best of Africa

Media coverage on Africa is often focused on problems.  Founded in 2016, The Best of Africa (thebestofafrica.org)  is a media portal for African voices and talents. Our content and services are targeted towards leveraging talent to show that the beauty of the African continent lies in people, their skills and the ability to use these to contribute to painting a more positive narrative of the continent.

Role description

Social media, writing and editing content is an essential part of what we do. We require an individual to help us to create and edit content who can also help to promote our work and connect with our community of readers. This role will bring you in contact with those engaging with our content on social media platforms and allow you to contribute and edit content on a range of topics.

Key duties

• Running and optimising The Best of Africa social media accounts.
• Posting latest content from The Best of Africa on social media accounts.
• Staying informed on African issues in order to make updates on social media.
• Editing articles.
• Writing articles  on relevant topics.
• Sourcing  articles  (original content or content to be syndicated).
• Act as a day to liaison with our readers on social media platforms and respond to queries.

Ideal candidate

• A student or recent graduate with a strong academic record.
• Have a background and active interest in all things Africa (politics, development, sport, entertainment etc.)
• Experience using  social media beyond personal use.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Highly efficient and organised and has experience of carrying out admin tasks.

• A team player who takes initiative and is able to meet strict deadlines and cope under pressure.
