Texila American University Zambia is a private University, established in 2016. The University is approved by Higher Education Authority – Ministry of Higher Education, Zambia and Listed in Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) and International Council for Open and Distance Education.
Texila American university Seeks to recruit a suitable, dynamic and motivated individuals to fill the position of Nursing Preceptor.
The incumbent will be responsible for but not limited to the following.
NURSING PRECEPTOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The preceptor plays a vital role in the educational process. The preceptor acts as a clinical resource while students apply the medical knowledge obtained during the training. The Preceptor must be a practicing nurse with a valid practicing License. S/He will be responsible for the on-site supervision, training, assessment and evaluation of student Nurse as follows:-
1. Student Schedule
The Preceptor working with Faculty team determines the student’s schedule. Students are expected to adhere to the designated work schedule and hours or weeks in that particular site. Students are expected to work nights, weekends and day shifts. The preceptor facilitates an informal, collaborative and mutually respectful environment in which orient students to the clinical site, policies and procedures. S/he further discusses with the student the preferred method for communication including assuming responsibility for providing a substitute preceptor in liaison with the faculty in the event of an absence.
2. Clinical Experience
In the clinical area, the Preceptor will discuss with the health Facility expectations for the on the ward documentation of patient encounters. S/he further review the objectives of the course and student’s clinical objectives to determine the type of learning opportunities that will enhance the student’s learning in that particular practicum area. S/he also orientates the student alongside Facility staff in the policies and structure of the practicum environment whilst acting as a role model in demonstrating evidence based nursing care. S/he then assists and encouraging students to spend as much time as possible in supervised hands-on patient care activities thereby providing a variety of learning experiences with appropriate client populations.
3. Objectives
Students are given learning objectives to guide their learning and to focus their study efforts for the end of rotation practicum exam. The Preceptor reviews and discusses with the student the learning outcomes for the specific practicum placement. Identifies and mutually agrees on learning opportunities that will facilitate the achievement of the learning outcomes and challenges the student to assume responsibility for their own learning. Students are also required to complete a list of minimum requirements throughout the clinical year along side the preceptor.
4. Supervision
The preceptor is responsible for the overall supervision of the Nursing student’s educational experience at the clinical site. Therefore, S/he must be on the premises and available at all times while the student is performing patient care tasks.The student must know who their preceptor and how to contact them in case of eventualities. While on rotations, nursing student will be supervised in all activities and any issues of concern or unsafe practice (student behavior, clinical skills, and/or student progression) regarding the student to the clinical faculty must be dealt with as soon as possible.
Qualifications.
- Full grade twelve certificate.
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing, a Masters will be an added advantage.
- Valid practicing licence from the General Nursing council.
- At least 5 Years experience.
- Conversant with MS office packages.
- Able to work in teams.
