Silverlands Zambia Ltd is an agricultural business which operates in Central and Southern provinces with its head office situated in Lusaka. The Company wishes to invite applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the following position for our ranch in Zimba:
Health and Safety Officer- Abattoir X 1
Job Role:
- Responsible for the Silverlands Ranching Ltd compliance with the Zambian Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- Responsible for the completion of all statutory requirements, this will include maintaining the required onsite documentation and all submissions to the Zambian regulatory authorities;
- Establish H&S policies and procedures for the construction site;
- Day to day site monitoring to make sure all actives are carried out in a safe way;
- Manage all H&S site meetings;
- Run induction program for all contractors on site;
- Oversee that all contactors comply with OHSA;
- Maintain a register of all contractors documentation as required by Zambian regulation;
- Act as first point of contact for general safety queries;
- Organise specialised H&S training for specific groups of staff as required;
- Maintain accurate records in relation to all aspects of safety, in particular reports of accidents/incidents and investigations, training records, risk assessments;
- Organise provision of First Aid kit refills;
- Monitor and keep accurate records of stock in the storage room.
Requirements:
- Full Grade 12 certificate;
- Diploma or BSc in Environmental Health or a similar discipline;
- Must have sound knowledge of the Public Health Act and Food and Drugs Act;
- Awareness of notifiable disease threats and must be able to identify such diseases;
- Sound understanding of Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock’s response to a notifiable disease outbreak;
- Experience of Health & Safety administration;
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety;
- Is able to communicate in English with excellent levels of literacy, numeracy and IT skills including use of Microsoft Office, Word and Excel;
- Ability to work well in a team and independently with minimum supervision;
- Well-organised, with excellent attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and prioritise;
- Positive and helpful attitude;
- Experience in agribusiness or have demonstrable knowledge of the agricultural industry with a minimum of three years’ work experience is desirable.
