Working in Zambia since 1996, Plan International Zambia’s development and capacity building programmes focus primarily on Education, Health, Water and Sanitation, Economic Security and Youth Empowerment, including Child Protection and Participation. Plan International Zambia has programme areas (PAs) in; Central, Luapula, and Eastern Provinces including in Lusaka, where the Country Office is located.

We are looking for experienced, innovative, motivated, self-starter individuals to fill the following position:

Water and Sanitation Field Officer – Chongwe (1)

Position Description:

The position exists to coordinate the WASH SDG project in Chongwe districts in order to facilitate and provide technical support to all stakeholders including communities, partners and associates in the implementation of project activities. The incumbent will ensure facilitation of WASH SDG project planning, monitoring and coordinating the project activities in Chongwe district.  He/she will facilitate community mobilization and monitoring of activities the project.

Responsibilities:

• Providing backstopping support to community volunteers.
• Identification of capacity building needs of community members including children and youth on the project to ensure competence in selection, planning and management of WASH project activities.
• Facilitate and implement evidence-based behavior change communication campaigns for uptake and payment of urban sanitation services.
• Promote sanitation through CLTS approach.
• Mainstreaming gender to gain support for women empowerment in decision making and implementation of WASH SDG project.
• Promoting hygiene awareness and Menstrual Hygiene Management-MHM awareness raising.
• Facilitate construction of gender sensitive WASH facilities in schools.
• Facilitate development of finance options for both consumers and providers.
• Facilitate linkages with and capacity building of credit institutions and self-help groups to access finance for WASH.
• Facilitate designing and test innovative business models for inclusive fecal sludge emptying services in urban areas.
• Facilitate capacity building on occupational health and safety along fecal sludge management.
• Facilitate capacity building strengthening of local authorities to plan, coordinate WASH services and improve quality.

Qualifications:

• Diploma in Environmental Health sciences, water engineering and related fields.
• Three years practical experience in a similar role in a development organization.
• Must possess proven ability to create good working relationships with partners, NGO’S and relevant ministries.
• Good community participatory skills.
• Excellent public speaking and writing skills.
• Excellent project, planning, monitoring and evaluation.
• Advanced computer skills
• Possess a motorbike driving license
• Knowledge of local language ; Soli and Tonga will be an added advantage
