Job Description

PATH seeks to engage four (04) temporary Laboratory Assistants to assist with performing rapid diagnostic tests on suspected TB patients to determine the specificity and sensitivity of the FINDTMTB rapid test for Tuberculosis (UNIMA) study. The findings of this study is a unique opportunity to be on the cutting edge of changes for testing and treatment for people living with TB.

The Laboratory Assistants will be located in Ndola and Kitwe and will be employed for the duration of this project.
The following are the responsibilities and required skills and experience for the preferred candidate.
- Administer consent forms, get appropriate consents, and ensure these are submitted to project coordinator
- Conduct TB diagnostic tests on suspected TB patients in the health facility Out Patient Department
- Ensure case report forms are completed in conjunction with the health facility health care workers
- Ensure that patients receive their routine TB diagnostic tests (Gene Expert) and are appropriately referred for management
- Ensure quality and completeness of case report forms
- Report any adverse events or complaints from subjects of the study to the project coordinator and/or principal investigator
- Observe safety rules and regulations
- Ensure all requirements for execution of the tests are onsite in a timely manner
- Assist with MDA and laboratory logistics and other duties as assigned.
- Ensure that the work environment is maintained in good and clean state according to good laboratory practice
- Any other duty that the research coordinator may assign
Required Experience
- University degree preferred in a relevant subject (Lab Science, Biology, Parasitology, Physiology, or other similar)
- Experience with handling infectious biological products
- Familiarity with safety requirements for the prevention of TB and HIV
- Experience with performing or interpreting rapid diagnostic test, general laboratory experience preferred.
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to read, write and communicate fluently in Bemba and English.
Must have legal authorization to work in Zambia.
