The Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) is a multispurpose facility which was launched on 11th May, 2010 by former Zambian president Rupiah Banda and the then International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacque Roggue. The formation of the OYDC, came as a result of a tripartite agreement among the Government of the Republic of Zambia through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development, National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with a mission of developing young and talented underserved athletes by giving hope to local communities through sport. OYDC now invites applications to fill positions of Swimming Coach; Electrician; Life Guard and Plumber. Details below
POSITION NUMBER ONE (1)
Job title: Swimming Coach
Reporting to: Programs Officer
Location: LUSAKA
Overall purpose of the job:
To help teach and coach athletes of all ages and abilities to develop swimming skills, technique and confidence in the water.
KEY ACTIVITIES/ROLES
To plan and deliver lessons ensuring adherence to the scheme of work and lesson plans
Ensure safe provision of all equipment and ensure it is used correctly Make sure safety standards are followed in sessions and undertake risk assessments Identify participants’ abilities and encourage them to reach their full potential Plan and deliver sessions appropriate to the level of swimmer Provide explanations and demonstrate swimming techniques Correct faults in swimming techniques and identify ways to improve performance To be a positive role model, creating a positive and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage the athletes Set ground rules for each session Be able to plan, budget, organize and report an event. Evaluate sessions and give feedback Regularly assess each participant’s ability and progress To constantly update, manage and complete your registers Be able to advise athletes on nutrition. Work alongside the Swimming Coordinator, other Swimming Teachers/Coaches, Lifeguards etc. to help ensure that participants are able to swim in a safe environment, during training and competitions. To attend regular meetings with the Sports Programmes officer when necessary. Skills

Qualifications & Experience
All swimming teachers/coaches must have achieved, as a minimum, any of the following
- First aid background
- Must be a member of the Zambia Swimming Union (ZASU).
- Must have a certificate of swimming from a recognized institution.
- 2 years’ work experience
- To perform the job in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, especially the Equal Opportunities and Harassment Policy.
POSITION NUMBER TWO (2)
Job title: Life Guard
Reporting to: Programs Officer
Location: LUSAKA
Overall purpose of the job:
Ensures the safety of the swimmers by preventing and responding to emergencies.
KEY ACTIVITIES/ROLES
Ensure the health and safety of the swimmers in the swimming pool. This includes appropriate and efficient emergency response when needed Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services. To enforce the pool rules in an appropriate, fair and equitable manner and Explain the rationale for the rule(s) when needed. Assist the swimmers as needed, but without compromising the safety of others using the swimming pool Adhere to the policies and procedures set forth for the swimming pool Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility. Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports. Attend all staff and evaluation meetings as requested. Be on time and cover all assigned hours. Maintain an appropriate level of fitness in order to competently perform all job related tasks. Swimming 1000 yards per week is required. Perform other job related tasks as may be reasonably be required from time-to-time. To perform the job in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, especially the Equal Opportunities and Harassment Policy.
Any special requirements:
- 1 year work experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. CPR Certified; Current certification as Lifeguard by a recognized source of training.
- Knowledge of first aid training certificate
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Pass a preliminary CPR and swimming test.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department.
- Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
- Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
- Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
POSITION NUMBER THREE (3)
Job title: Electrician
Reporting to: Maintenance Officer
Location: LUSAKA
Overall purpose of the job: To work on electrical equipment at the lodge, sports facilities, buildings, both existing and under construction, to install, repair and maintain power, lighting, communications and control systems.
KEY ACTIVITIES/ROLES
Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous. Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Maintain current electrician’s license or identification card to meet governmental regulations. Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes. Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps. Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors. Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment. Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes. Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications. Fasten small metal or plastic boxes to walls to house electrical switches or outlets. Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects. Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services. Provide assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights and generators, placing flares, and driving needed vehicles. REQUIREMENTS

Job title: Plumber
Reporting to: Maintenance Officer
Location: LUSAKA
Overall purpose of the job:
KEY ACTIVITIES/ROLES
Installation, maintenance and repair of all potable water systems, raw and fire water systems as well as sewerage and ablution systems Assisting in ordering and selecting plumbing materials Inspecting buildings and facilities for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance Diagnosing causes of problems and/or failures in plumbing/irrigation systems for the purpose of identifying repair and or replacement needs Communicate urgent matters to management in a timely manner Informing personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations To undertake any other tasks given by the supervisor Skills
- Knowledge of work tools used in plumbing
- Ability to read building specifications of related documents
