Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited is the provider of water and sanitation services in Chingola, Mufulira and Chililabombwe. The Company invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Legal Counsel/ Company Secretary at Head Office in Chingola.
LEGAL COUNSEL/ COMPANY SECRETARY
Purpose of the Job
To provide Secretarial Duties to the at Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company and to maintain and develop an effective and efficient system of planning, coordinating, organising and controlling legal and corporate service activities as well as assist all Directors in the enforcement and interpretation of the Water Supply and Sanitation Act.
Main Accountabilities
- Provides effective secretarial services to the Mulonga Water and Sewerage Company and Executive Management to ensure effective and efficient administration of operations of the Board;
- Plans, directs and coordinates activities relating to provision of legal services and support. This includes advising and representing the MWSC in all legal matters, drafting and reviewing legal documentation, attending to conveyance and legal drafting relating to MWSC property. Mitigating legal costs arising out of possible law suits or actual suits to help preserve the image of the MWSC
- Maintains all MWSC records, property deeds, Minute Books, registers, contracts and other legal documents related to the MWSC to ensure safe custody of these documents.
- Interprets laws, including the Workers’ Compensation Act No. 10 Of 1999 so that the institution is properly guided in executing its mandate.
- Analyses, periodically, and interprets national and international laws, edicts and statutes that have implications on the activities of Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company and prepares reports for the Managing Director and Board in order to provide informed legal opinion.
- Drives Performance Management appraisals in the Directorate and reviewing the Directorate’s performance periodically, enforcing rules and ensuring that the Directorate achieves its setgoals.
- Prepares Directorate Budget, monitoring and controlling Directorate expenditure, investigating variances and initiating corrective action so as to achieve set financial objectives
Knowledge and skill requirements
- School Certificate
- Bachelor of Laws Degree
- Advocate of the High Court
- Five (5) years’ experience in a reputable organization
