mothers2mothers Zambia seeks to recruit a Training and Capacity Building Manager for the JSI led, USAID Supporting an AIDS-Free Era (SAFE) program in Zambia. The five year project will work to reduce HIV mortality, morbidity and transmission, while improving nutrition outcomes and family planning integration in three provinces: Central, Copperbelt, and North-Western.
USAID SAFE will work with the GRZ, private sector and civil society institutions at the national, provincial, and district level to increase access to ART for HIV positive adults and children, reduce the incidence of new infections, improve Nutritional Assessment, Counseling and Services (NACS) and family planning services, and increase the capacity of local health institutions to better serve affected populations.
The Training and Capacity Building Manager is responsible for leading capacity building (training, supportive supervision, quality improvement, capacity building and mentorship) activities for Mentor Mother and RMNCH program activities. Through this peer education and psychosocial support model, delivered by HIV-positive women (trained and employed as Mentor Mothers) in high-volume health facilities and surrounding communities, USAID/PEPFAR SAFE will improve uptake of HIV testing, linkages and referrals to ART, HIV, family planning, TB, and NACS, retention in care, and adherence among pregnant and postnatal women and their families contributing to elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and improved reproductive, maternal, and child health outcomes. This position is responsible for oversight and implementation of training and capacity building of Mentor Mother activities across the project provinces.
The position will be based in Lusaka, Zambia, employed by m2m, will report to PMTCT Specialist and is fully seconded to the USAID/PEPFAR SAFE project (led by JSI), working with others within the SAFE programs and technical teams.
Description of tasks/Key performance areas
Quality Improvement (40%)
- Lead quality assurance and quality improvement efforts for Mentor Mother and RMNCH programming.
- Conduct periodic quality assessments and identify areas for capacity building and improvement. Develop and implement quality improvement interventions where required.
- Develop tools and materials to be used by Provincial Coordinators and other program staff for site-level mentoring and management.
- Support and coordinate step-down trainings as necessary from MOH and clinical partners.
- Support, develop and implement quality control mechanisms to support successful and effective learning
Training (60%)
- Manage the adaptation and maintenance of a competency-based curriculum package for training Mentor Mothers and project staff to deliver services in line with relevant programmatic and national guidelines
- Develop and manage training workplan for Mentor Mother and RMNCH programming needs, including milestones and key deliverables, informed by USAID/PEPFAR SAFE project workplan and priorities.
- Facilitate training for Mentor Mothers in collaboration with Provincial Coordinators, ensuring training quality, and oversee post-training follow-up support.
- Conduct routine on-job mentorships for the Mentor Mothers
- Assess the impact of training interventions, compile training reports, and share findings with appropriate team members and stakeholders
- Work with the M&E team in the monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure the impact of training initiatives and monitor technical quality of trainings
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in public health or health and development-related field
- At least five years’ experience in implementing HIV/AIDS, RMNCH, or similar programs in Zambia
- Demonstrated knowledge of PMTCT/RMNCH policies and guidelines in Zambia
- Excellent training and presentation skills, and experience designing training on PMTCT/RMNCH or HIV-related topics for health professionals, and for peer educators or lower literacy participants
- Demonstrated experience in on-job mentorships and quality improvement support, and use of program tools for technical supervision
- Experience with USAID/PEPFAR program implementation preferred
- Experience supporting the use of electronic client management tools preferred
