The University of Maryland Baltimore with funding from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will conduct the Zambia National Population HIV Impact Assessment (ZAMPHIA 2020).
ZAMPHIA 2020 will assess progress towards achievement of the UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets on national and subnational levels. The data will be used to focus HIV services and resources to the areas of greatest need and help move Zambia closer to HIV epidemic control.
The University of Maryland Baltimore affiliate, Maryland Global Initiatives Corporation Zambia (MGIC Zambia) is currently inviting applications from interested persons, who meet the minimum requirements to apply to the key positions advertised. Project Duration is scheduled for eighteen (18) months and successful candidates will be offered employment for that period.
Visual Communications and Media Officer
The Visual Communication and Media Officer for the ZAMPHIA 2020 will be responsible for the communication and media activities for the population-based household HIV/AIDS Surveys (PHIA) surveys in Zambia. This position reports directly to the Director of Operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Researching, writing, and editing announcements and news articles to report on UMB – ZAMPHIA’s ongoing and upcoming work and achievements.
- Conceiving, developing and distributing online, print and digital communications materials, including project briefs, fact sheets, publications, slide decks, infographics, and presentations.
- Creating and posting content to the website.
- Creating, managing, and distributing online communications through email and internal and external communications platforms.
- Developing social media posts and managing social media properties.
- Assisting with planning and execution of events.
- Documenting UMB – ZAMPHIA initiatives through photos and video.
- Supporting UMB – ZAMPHIA’s country teams with communications needs and requests.
- Cataloging and managing creative assets, including photo libraries, publications, signage, event collateral and other materials.
- Copyediting and proofreading materials for internal and external distribution.
- Performing reporting and communications-related administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in strategic communications, marketing, public policy or a public health-related field plus a minimum of three years related experience.
- Three years of experience in Communications, preferably in an international development or public health organization.
- Demonstrated experience in project management for communications.
- Excellent writing, editorial and project management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex technical/scientific language for the web and other audiences/platforms.
- Strong presentation skills and ability to do basic graphic layout.
- Strong interpersonal and coordinative skills.
- Fluency in English required
