The Maryland Global Initiatives Corporation (MGIC), an international non-profit affiliate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), works to strengthen health systems and reduce the spread and impact of HIV/AIDS in the operational areas. Currently, MGIC has a presence and offices in six countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including Botswana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia.
MGIC Zambia in conjunction with the University of Maryland are accepting applications for the positions of Senior Medical Technical Advisor for projects implemented in Lusaka, Western, Eastern, and Southern Provinces. Positions will involve high level management and leadership providing technical support to health care facilities in HIV care and treatment.
Positions may be based outside of Lusaka in other provinces.
Main responsibilities will include the following:
- Provide medical technical support to provinces; districts and facilities that are supported by the University of Maryland in all areas of HIV care and treatment
- Support the District, and Provincial ART programs to strengthen ART health systems across the province
- Participate in Provincial technical working groups as related to expertise.
- Serve as a link between the Ministry of Health and the University of Maryland on various supported programs
- Ensure quality care at site level by enhancing capacity of clinical (Medical Officer, Clinical Officer, Nursing) staff as well as social scientists and community staff by building on current skills through on-site mentorship and trainings.
- Participate in reviewing local challenges and assist sites with problem solving to address patient needs from clinical and program perspectives.
- Participate in advanced training programs including but not limited to: recognizing and managing antiretroviral drug side effects, identifying and managing of opportunistic infections, PMTCT, TB/HIV co-infection.
- Provide supported facilities with all the latest information on HIV care, including updates on new National Guidelines.
- Spearhead the scale up of all HIV related services such as HIV testing, ART, PMTCT, DSD, PrEP, TB diagnosis and treatment, TB IPT, Lab services and other related services.
- Represents UMB at different forums in districts under the hub as well as forums at provincial and national level as may be requested
- Participate in Ministry of Health technical working groups as related to expertise.
- Serve as a link between the Ministry of Health and the University of Maryland on various supported programs
Qualifications:
- Medical officers only, Masters in Medicine or Public Health preferred
- Minimum five years as senior position in HIV care and treatment
- Demonstrated leadership ability overseeing large projects
- Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) experience a plus
- Familiarity with CDC and MOH priorities
- Travel expected at least 50% of work time.
