The University of Maryland Baltimore with funding from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will conduct the Zambia National Population HIV Impact Assessment (ZAMPHIA 2020).
ZAMPHIA 2020 will assess progress towards achievement of the UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets on national and subnational levels. The data will be used to focus HIV services and resources to the areas of greatest need and help move Zambia closer to HIV epidemic control.
The University of Maryland Baltimore affiliate, Maryland Global Initiatives Corporation Zambia (MGIC Zambia) is currently inviting applications from interested persons, who meet the minimum requirements to apply to the key positions advertised. Project Duration is scheduled for eighteen (18) months and successful candidates will be offered employment for that period.
Senior Accountant
The Senior Accountant ZAMPHIA 2020 will be responsible for preparing and analyzing financial reports for the population-based household HIV/AIDS Surveys (PHIA) surveys in Zambia. The Senior Accountant will oversee day-to-day business processes and financial controls of the ZAMPHIA 2020 survey. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure timely and accurate capturing, recording and reporting of financial data for ZAMPIA 2020 projects through accrual based accounting using Quickbooks software.
- Support the timely development, review, approval and submission of correct and concise financial reports to management
- Analyze and report gaps between planned budgets and actual expenses on a monthly basis,
- Gather information from the relevant departments, programs / projects to support the consolidation of budgets for project proposals according to project/mission needs and donor constraints,
- Participate and assist in budget monitoring and budget developments for proposals,
- Support the development of functional budgets necessary for attaining country office objectives,
- Supervise the management of safes and cash ensuring requisite funds are available for uninterrupted program execution,
- Assess monthly cash-flow needs for projects, prepare cash forecasts, and submit timely to Cash Management Team,
- Support the creation and maintenance a robust filing system which enables real time access to financial information and on time financial reporting,
- Support the design of and implement effective information and process flows and management with the Finance department and across other departments.
- Conduct other duties as appropriate, and as instructed by the Chief Operating Officer
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, a Master’s degree in business sciences will be an added advantage
- Professional Qualification and membership of an internationally recognized Institute like CA, ACCA, CIMA, CIS or equivalent,
- Member of ZICA,
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing donor funded grants,
- Knowledge of and proven experience in working with donor regulations like CDC, USAID, PEPFAR etc.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and written,
- High organizational skills and ability to work under extreme pressure and multitasking
