Description

The primary role of the data analyst is provided insight and analysis of data through clear visual, written and verbal communication.

The data analyst responsibilities include conducting statistical analysis on UMB-supported programs. Data analysts will conduct statistical analysis and written reports. They will also monitor performance and quality control plans to identify improvements.

Duties and tasks reflect substantial variety and complexity. This position requires data analysis experience and advanced Excel skills, proficiency with statistical software programs, and data management applications for analyzing data and interpreting results using statistical techniques.  Developing and implementing data analyses, managing databases, data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality. Acquiring data from primary or secondary data sources and maintaining databases

The candidate should have strong analytical skills and an understanding of system databases, data elements, and application software solutions to maximize data gathering and data analysis. The analyst also needs excellent communication skills to interpret client requirements and present data in a clear and compelling way. The candidate must be able to analyze data using statistical software programs including SAS, Stata or R and use Tableau, PowerBi or for advanced data visualizations.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Oversees the maintenance and updates of the databases and maintain up-to-date SOPs, codebooks and user guides.
  • Ensure data management practices are aligned with local and UMB regulations.
  • Perform data analysis and prepare written results.
  • Manage and update databases
  • Monitor and audit data quality
  • Create data dashboards, graphs and visualizations
  • Troubleshooting the reporting database environment and reports.
  • Training end users on new reports and dashboards
  • Providing technical expertise on data storage structures, data mining, and data cleansing.
  • Assign tasks and supervise two public health analysts.
  • Other duties as assigned by team lead

  • Annual performance development plan and appraisals

Qualifications

  • Education: Masters in epidemiology, biostatistics or statistics or related field.
  • Experience: At least 8 years’ analytics working experience

Skills and knowledge:

  • Proficient with the use of computers.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Should have exceptional reading and comprehension skills.
  • The capacity to develop and document procedures and workflows.
  • The ability to carry out data quality control, validation and linkage.
  • The ability to produce clear graphical representations and data visualizations.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools – Microsoft Excel, R, SAS, Stata, Tableau etc.
  • Knowledge of data modelling, data cleansing, and data enrichment techniques.
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle a variety of responsibilities under pressure.
  • Must be able to function independently.
  • Demonstrates good communication skills.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal and motivational skills.
  • Good leadership skills

Working conditions

Requires a minimum of planned 2 weeks of travel per quarter to provide technical support, mentoring and supervision. Must be able to work with very SHORT timelines that may require unplanned travels and long work hours
