EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Position Title: MANAGING DIRECTOR

The Macha Research Trust (MRT) is an internationally recognized health research organization based at Macha Mission Hospital, Choma District, Zambia. The institute currently conducts basic and applied research for strengthening interventions against malaria, influenza and HIV/AIDS. MRT seeks to recruit one suitably qualified candidate to take up the position of Managing Director. This is a full-time contract position for 36 months.

Reports to: Chair, Board of Directors

Specific responsibilities / duties:

A. Serve as the principal advisor and resource to the Board of Directors

B. Serve as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MRT, providing overall coordination, guidance and direction to the institute

C. Work closely with senior management in assuring compliance with grant fund use requirements, relevant Zambian government laws and internationally accepted research ethics standards.

D. Provide oversight for the financial affairs of the organization.

E. Work with management, staff and the Board of Directors of MRT, in developing long range goals and plans for future programs and projects to be carried out by MRT.

F. Serve as the chief spokesperson for the organization.

G. Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Chair, MRT Board of Directors.

Eligible candidate:

• The eligible candidates must possess a Bachelors and Masters in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent from an accredited Zambian or International Institution of Higher Learning, plus training in NGO Administration
• The following qualifications would be considered an added advantage: MBChB or Mmed or MPH or PhD in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent, established scientist with record of achievements and publications, preferably in field of medical/biomedical research, Zambian Citizen.
