News Editor at Kasempa Community Radio

KASEMPA RADIO is a community radio station broadcasting on a frequency of 91.9 fm and a radius of 150 Km that reaches audiences within and in other places outside Kasempa. The broadcast languages are 60 % Kikaonde, 50 % English and operates an 18 hour broadcast from 06 to 00 hours. It is located in the North- Western Province of Zambia and is 185 Km from the provincial capital Solwezi.

The Station is inviting applications from suitably qualified Zambians to fill the positions that are vacant.

The News Editor shall be required to perform the following:

• Head the Programmes department and be responsible for all programming content.
• Create and overseas content to ensure the production of high quality programs that suit the Stations Editorial policy
• Uphold and observe the Editorial Policy at all times during programming.
• Be responsible for the News and Programming content of the radio.
• Ensure punctuality in programme scheduling.
• Edit News scripts and be able to Cast News
• Ensure that Programmes and News content suits the Stations internal policies.
• Hold diary sessions every morning Mon – Fri.
• Select Reporters for coverage
• Keep track of Events.
• Deciding on the running order for Bulletins and making necessary changes during broadcast schedules
• Making timely and effective decisions in situations requiring prompt attention
• Conversant with Independent broadcasting authority (IBA) standard operating procedures for   broadcasting in Zambia.
• Report to the Station Manager and deputize the Station Manager

• Possess leadership qualities and be able to mentor Volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Grade Twelve Certificate
• Diploma in JOURNALISM studies from a recognized institution
• At least two years’ experience
• Experience in Radio industry is an added advantage
