INFORMATION SCIENCE COORDINATOR

Role Overview
The Information Science Coordinator will support the Strategic Information (SI) and Implementation Science (IS) teams at the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ). The Coordinator will be a catalyst for capacity building in data science by supporting individual-level and aggregate analyses. They will become proficient in methods to access data from CIDRZ’s databases, clean and analyze data, and identify and codify more efficient processes for reporting. The Coordinator will also produce visualizations, reports, and take-aways to inform data-driven decisions. CIDRZ’s databases include SmartCare, an Electronic Health Records (EHR) management system developed in the C# programming language and running Microsoft SQL Server as its database backend, as well as project-specific databases including enteric diseases, cervical cancer, and hepatitis B cohort.
Responsibilities
- Work with the data team to develop streamlined and efficient processes for pulling data from the SmartCare EHR to support SI and IS activities
- Assist program managers with the assessment and analysis of programmatic data, including the application of retrospective cohort designs and IS methods such as regression discontinuity, interrupted time series, and quasi-experimental designs.
- Review the development and finalization of training guides and documents created to support the capacity building in Data Science
- Prepare analytical and program related study related reports, presentations, and publications in collaboration with the SI and IS teams
- Support data collection, cleaning, and analysis for a variety of programmatic evaluations and implementation science projects
- Assist the SI team in developing new dashboards for reviewing programmatic data
- Assist PIs with the writing, editing, and submission of publications and grants
- Liaise with other CIDRZ staff as required
Skills and Experience
Items indicated with an asterisk (*) are required
- Bachelor’s degree*
- Preferred: Master’s degree in a health field (e.g. Epidemiology), a social science (e.g. Statistics, Biostatistics, or Economics), or another related field
- Experienced with statistical software like STATA, R, or SAS*
- Experience running queries and reports in a database system*
- Strong quantitative data analysis skills with experience synthesizing results into visuals, reports, or other materials*
- Research experience, with preference for patient-oriented and/or epidemiological research and/or longitudinal data analysis
- Proficient in programming languages SQL or C+, which will ease the learning curve on the SmartCare database
- Proficiency in mapping software, e.g. ArcGIS
- Familiar with implementation science analytical approaches such as interrupted time series and regression discontinuity
- Attention to detail
