CAREER OPPORTUNITY
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is the implementing agency of the Federal Republic of Germany for technical and international cooperation. It offers flexible, sustainable and effective solutions in political, economic and social change processes. Most of the work of GIZ is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). GIZ also operates on behalf of other German ministries as well as public and private bodies in Germany and abroad. These include the European Commission, the United Nations, the World Bank and governments of other countries.
The GIZ Food and Nutrition Security and Enhanced Resilience (FANSER) Project aims to improve the nutritional situation of deprived people, particularly women of reproductive age (15 – 49) and children under the age of two years, in the Districts of Petauke and Katete. Implementation of the FANSER Project, which is funded by a global initiative of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, started in October 2015. The GIZ main field office is located in Chipata. Offices of the implementing partner Catholic Relief Services (CRS) are located in Katete and Petauke.
The main objectives are (i) improved quality of and a more varied and balanced diet for women and children; (ii) improved and stable access to and greater availability of food for households threatened by food insecurity; (iii) increased resilience by taking advantage of basic services in agriculture, health, education, social security as well as water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). The project works together with various public and private implementing partners such as NGOs and extension services.
In this context, the project is seeking a suitable candidate for the following position and will be based in Chipata with frequent travels to Katete and Petauke and occasionally to Lusaka:

Main tasks and responsibilities:
Technical Support on Nutrition and Project Management:
- Assisting the Technical Coordinator of the project at the Chipata Office with all project management related topics, including administrative and logistical processes
- Supporting the project team at the Chipata Office in all operational activities, monitoring and documentation
- Assuring the knowledge management, including public communication of the project in the Eastern Province, in close collaboration with the communication expert of the project based in Lusaka
- Supporting the project implementation in the area of nutrition and WASH activities in close collaboration with the implementing partner CRS
Qualifications and requirements:
- Minimum of a master’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, or a similar field
Professional experience:
- At least 1 year’s professional experience (e.g. internships, volunteering) in the field of development cooperation, at public entities or research institutions
Other knowledge, additional competences:
- Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office or online databases)
- Experience in project management or research in an area related to the project’s requirements is desirable
- Fluent written and oral knowledge of English and fluent oral knowledge of at least one local language of the Eastern Province
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work responsibly, effectively and must be target oriented
- Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
