LEGAL COUNSEL
General Nursing Council of Zambia (GNCZ) is a statutory body established in 1970 under the Nurses and Midwives Act No. 55 of 1970 with an express mandate to regulate nursing and midwifery education and practice. The Act was repealed and replaced by the Nurses and Midwives Act No. 31 of 1997, which redefined the functions of the Council and expanded the scope of practice for nurses and midwives.
The Council is therefore, inviting for applications from highly motivated, result oriented, qualified and experienced person to fill the position of LEGAL COUNSEL.
JOB DESCRIPTION/SPECIFICATION
JOB TITLE: Legal Counsel

JOB PURPOSE: To undertake effectively the investigations, compile reports, preparation of verbatim minutes of the disciplinary proceedings, preparation of rulings and advise the Council on matters of litigation.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILTY MAIN DUTIES
INVESTIGATIONS
Undertakes effectively the investigation of complaints and compile reports to the Registrar in order to generate a factual report to the Disciplinary Committee.
PREPARATION OF VERBATIM MINUTES OF DISCIPLINARY PROCEEDINGS
Undertakes effectively the preparation of verbatim minutes to ensure an accurate and factual record is generated to guide the Disciplinary Committee.
PREPARATION OF THE RULINGS
Undertakes effectively the preparation of rulings in order to provide timely feedback to the complainant as well as the accused.
ADVISE THE COUNCIL ON LEGAL MATTERS
Provides effectively advisory and interpretation services to the Council to ensure statutory compliance to the existing laws and regulatory requirements.
MONITORING AND EVALUATION
Undertakes effectively the monitoring and evaluation of the investigations, disciplinary proceedings, preparation of rulings and the disposal of cases.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
(a) Primary/ Secondary Education:
- Full grade twelve (12) / Form V, School certificate
(b) Minimum Vocational/ProfessionaI Qualifications:
- LLB Degree with five years practicing experience at the bar.
(c) Minimum Relevant Pre-Job Experience:
- 5 years working experience
(d) Communication Skills:
(i) Written Skills
- Able to write technical and analytical reports
(ii) Oral Skills
- Able to communicate effectively in English
(iii) Other skills/ Attributes:
- Computer Literate;
- Integrity; and
- Interpersonal Skills.
