Key Responsibilities
The holder of this position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
- Transfer of the corrosion strategy to the discipline responsible of scaffolding, painting and coating design
- Oversee the crew performing high steel and structural steel painting, sand blasting, powder blast and preparation for enamel, bitumanstic, and latex painting
- Support the crew prepare and paint various surfaces including, aluminum, ferrous metal, interior drywall, woodwork, shop coated metal, uncoated metal, finished hardware, accessories, light fixtures, plates, and other surfaces as specified
- Determine appropriate colors and coatings for various surfaces according to standard guidelines; obtain necessary approvals; and operate inspection equipment
- Determine and apply appropriate coating systems for painting ferrous metals which may/may not be subject to submergence in water, sewage, or corrosive environments
- Work closely with construction, planning and scheduling groups
- Ensure all work complies with applicable codes and/or specifications
- Train and supervise crew on how to mix paint and protective coatings
- Calculate the amount of paint needed for any given project
- Keep work records
- Support crew members to perform masonry waterproofing, exterior masonry staining; maintain acoustical tile and factory applied finishes and caulking; and perform preventive maintenance
- Ensure product quality assurance is achieved
- Ensure there is effective communication with teammates
- Prepare and submit requests and supportive documentation for obtaining necessary approval to use substitute materials
- Learn and apply safety precautions needed when working at extreme heights, such as harnesses and steel anchors.
- Ensure a high degree of Safety Standards are established and that all subordinate personnel adhere to these standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Grade 12 Certificate
- Must have a Degree or Diploma in Corrosion Engineering or a related field
- Specific corrosion protection Certificate from a recognized international institute
Experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in corrosion protection painting
- Good understanding of corrosion protection
- Knowledge in paint mixing and surfaces technology may be required

Operational Requirements
- Supervise the design, installation, operation, maintenance and testing of corrosion control systems – i.e. cathodic protection and coating programs.
- Ensure company practices are in compliance with requirements for corrosion control by monitoring field test records.
- Participate in regulatory audits as the corrosion representatives for the company
