FHI 360 is currently recruiting for the position of Gender and Social Inclusion Advisor (GESI Advisor) for an anticipated USAID-funded district governance strengthening project in Zambia. The project will help the Government of the Republic of Zambia with informing citizens and building their capacity to effectively demand improved service delivery while strengthening a local system of governance capable of responsive service delivery.
Position Description:
The GESI Advisor will ensure that project activities effectively integrate gender and youth considerations and will mainstream the interests of vulnerable groups in project activities. Likewise, the Advisor will support the design and implementation of project activities that address the unique challenges that women, youth, and vulnerable groups face in their communities. He/she will support project management with recommendations for improving processes to achieve objectives; will contribute to the overall adaptive programming approach; and will play a key role in project work planning, learning, and reporting.
This is a full-time position based in Lusaka, Zambia, for a duration of five years. Zambian nationals are strongly encouraged to apply. Availability of the position is contingent upon successful award of the project to FHI 360. The anticipated start time is Spring 2020.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance to the Chief of Party and field staff on inclusion and gender issues across all program areas
- Conduct gender analysis at program outset and incorporate findings in work plan and baseline data for ongoing monitoring and learning purposes
- Develop and deliver training to program staff, partners, and relevant stakeholders on inclusion-related issues, tools, and approaches, and conduct awareness raising initiatives
- Deliver technical assistance to stakeholders to build capacity around development of inclusive practices and policies
- Incorporate gender and inclusion approaches in all project activities, including research and data collection
- Work closely with the Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party to develop and implement appropriate messaging plans
- Develop annual project work plans in collaboration with field staff and contribute inputs to all donor related reporting mechanisms
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, gender studies, community development, peacebuilding, or other relevant field (advanced degree preferred)
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant professional experience managing and implementing development activities related to gender integration and inclusion
- Experience engaging youth
- Demonstrated ability to influence, motivate, and collaborate with others
- Experience with gender analysis highly desired, especially with a conflict-sensitive lens
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Oral and written fluency in English
- Ideally, the candidate will also have worked on USAID or other donor programs and be familiar with USAID’s approach to gender sensitivity and inclusion, including USAID’s Gender Equality and Female Empowerment policy and ADS 205
