CHAI Zambia’s Health Workforce team works directly with the Ministry of Health (MoH) to: (i) expand the number of healthcare workers in the country, (ii) optimize the distribution of the health workforce to improve equity of access and meet the needs of communities, and (iii) enhance the productivity of the existing health workforce.
CHAI Zambia is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual with strong analytical and quantitative skills as Community Health Associate. Successful candidates will have excellent communications skills, be able to function independently, be self-motivated, have the ability to thrive in challenging environments, and have a strong commitment to excellence. This position will be part of the CHAI Zambia’s Health Workforce team and report to the Program Manager, Health Workforce (Community Health Assistants) and will be based in Lusaka. Frequent travel in-country will be required.
The Community Health Associate will be responsible for assisting with implementation of the National Community Health Strategy in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ). In addition to working in close collaboration with GRZ (mostly though MoH), the Community Health Associate will interact with donors, NGOs, academic and research institutions and civil society on a regular basis.
This position is for duration of 9 months (until 31 December 2019 only).

Responsibilities
- Technical support:
- Collaborate with various external partners and CHAI’s Health Workforce team members to implement the CHA program in the following key areas:
- Recruitment and high quality training of CHAs
- Deployment of CHAs
- Mentorship and supportive supervision of CHAs once deployed
- Community Health Management Information System (CHMIS) and the use of data for decision making
- Engagement of community based volunteers and health governance structures for improved health at community level
- Research and process evaluations which inform improvement of program implementation
- Program management:
- Support development of regular activity work plans and budgets and ensure that deliverables and milestones are met in a timely fashion
- Support the monitoring of program progress and deliverables against the work plan
- Prepare regular reports (monthly, quarterly etc.) on the CHA program implementation for submission to the Program Manager, Health Workforce
- Assist the Health Workforce team in the process of documentation by providing the necessary data needed for the process
- Participating in the team’s resource mobilization efforts
- Maintain close partnership and collaboration with key development partners and support local government offices to mobilize resources from partners for the scale up of Community Health interventions
- Any other task as requested
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Community Health, Social Sciences or other health relevant field. A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage
- A minimum of 4 years of work experience in community health (as well as working with MoH) and within a demanding and fast-paced environment
- Proven track record of effective project management and ability to generate results
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional diplomatic and interpersonal skills, and able to build strong professional relationships with a range of stakeholders in a challenging, multi-cultural environment;
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously whilst mentoring a team to perform consistently;
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to make linkages between interventions/programs
- Self-motivated and ability to work under pressure and set priorities
- Ability to maximize available data to provide strategic recommendations
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to coordinate meetings, meet deadlines, generate data driven reports and work in a fast-paced environment with maximum efficiency and impact
- Willingness to travel domestically
