About Cities and Infrastructure for Growth Zambia (CIGZambia):
CIGZambia is a facility that provides high-quality independent technical advice and assistance to Zambian government bodies and private sector organisations engaged in projects/programmes that help harness the potential of Zambia’s cities and towns to act as drivers for economic growth and job creation. CIGZambia is funded by the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID).
The overall programme objectives are:
- increasing urban productivity;
- improving inclusive access to urban economic infrastructure services;
- increasing investment into urban economic infrastructure services; and,
- enhancing national and regional integration between cities.
About the Role
CIGZambia is seeking a Lusaka-based technical expert to support the work of a flexible and demand-driven technical assistance programme as the Transmission Planning Expert. Reporting to the Energy Component Lead, this position will play a critical role in achieving the overall programme objectives.
Project Responsibilities:
- Review of grid design options for transmission connection for Agro Luswishi Farm Block
- Possible participation in ZESCO technical assistance project (when clarified and agreed)
- Possible assistance with Kukula Seed 300kW solar demonstration project (integration of proposed solar project with other power sources on site)
Immediate Requirement for Agro Luswishi Farm Block:
- Consider different options for connecting the Agro Luswishi Farm Block to the grid (33kV, 66KV or 220kV) and the available power capacity that will be created for the project under each option
- Perform system modelling for the possible connections with utilities owning the grid (ZESCO or CEC)
- Prepare high level design / specification for possible grid connections (both at the Agro Luswishi site and at the connection point with the utility)
- Prepare budgetary costs for different grid connection scenarios
- Meet with utilities (ZESCO / CEC) to obtain information / confirmations as required
- Prepare high level project plan for each potential scenario (including estimated times for procurement, delivery, installation and commissioning)
- Contribute to multi-criteria assessment
- Possible follow-on participation in project implementation
Key Qualifications
- Professional Engineering Qualification (preferably electrical)
- Operational experience in management position in transmission department of a power utility (33kV and above)
- Conversant with substation design principles
- Conversant with project management processes for transmission connections (11kV to 220kV)
- Conversant with principles and processes for power system modelling and power quality monitoring
