Role Summary
To manage the day-to-day implementation of youth programs which are aimed at increasing the number of youths with skills, knowledge and social responsibility that empower them to be agents of change. The incumbent is responsible for daily implementation of programs that increase youth participation and develop self-reliant adults with the skills and drive needed for one to break free from poverty while improving their own community.
Responsibilities:
1. Planning inputs into activities covering SO4
a) Provide field inputs in essential life skills and knowledge
b) Input in developing strategies of empowering sponsored youths to become agents of change in their society.
c) Lead youths in developing innovative ideas which respond to identified local problems and turn them into empowerment projects
2. Community Awareness and buy-in in youth Programs
a) Educate /sensitise the targeted sponsored children (SC), youths, families, volunteers and communities on empowerment and social responsibility programs.
b) Identify and elicit the full support of community development structures so they can incorporate youths in decision making and participate in social responsibility initiatives at community level as part of on-going, yet dedicated/focused capacity building initiatives.
3. Youth and community/parental recruitment and orientation
a) Takes a lead in mobilising youths, parents/guardians and communities for successful youth programs
b) Assists the youth in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all service area centre (SAC) youth activities.
c) Information dissemination about all CI activities and events that pertain to sponsored and other targeted youths.
4. Empower Youths with specified social responsibility and critical thinking skills
a) Implement the Youth Empowerment Fund and related programs to build connections between individuals, demonstrate social responsibility and acquire critical thinking and life skills by
b) Assist the Youth Council (YC) in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of youth projects under youth empowerment fund
c) Support the SAC YC team in project identification, selection, and implementation.
d) Assist YC in coordinating with target participants, parents, partners and community members in the implementation of Youth Empowerment Fund projects.
e) Support youth in preparing project proposals and submits project proposals to the Youth Program Coordinator.
f) Monitor participation, follow-up and assess inconsistent and non- participation of the youth in the program
g) Submits monthly reports and End-Year Report to Youth Program Coordinator
5. Implement Youth Councils among sponsored children
a) Information dissemination about youth council (YC) events and activities.
b) Coordinate with YC members, parents, youth volunteers, community members and agency staff for the implementation of Youth Council activities
c) Oversee preparation, coordination and conduct of Youth Council elections and the review/submission of election returns
d) Overall supervision of the SAC and community based YC which includes the conduct of regular meetings and providing feedback
e) Orient parent volunteers on their adult support in the activities of the community youth councils
6. Implement Youth Leadership Training amoung sponsored children
a) Conduct enrolment and selection of participants and Co-Facilitators at the SAC level.
b) Support the Youth Program Coordinator in Youth Leadership Training activities.
c) Assists the youth in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of replication sessions and community service projects.
d) Monitors participation, follow-up and assess inconsistent and non- participation of the trainees in the program
e) Mobilize adult male and female volunteers to support youth during the planning and implementation of the replication sessions and community service projects
f) Provide support during offsite leadership training events/activities
g) Submit monthly reports, Mid-Year and End-Year Report to the Youth Program Coordinator
Qualifications and Experience:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Diploma or higher in Social Work, Development Studies or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of experience, particularly in working with youths in peri-urban settings
- Excellent Training and Facilitation skills
- Experience working with Children and the community
- Experience in stakeholder engagement in low resourced settings
Technical and Behavioural Competencies
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Team Player yet able to make independent decisions, when appropriate
- Familiar with Ability to train and offer counseling services
- Critical but lateral and vertical thinker
- Practical knowledge of child protection is essential
- Balanced temperament
