Medical Officer Ref No. 19/06/19
Reports to Director Clinical Care. The incumbent will coordinate and oversee the implementation of planned activities in assigned facilities /zones in Lusaka Province. Primarily, he/ she will provide onsite clinical mentoring and support to teams to ensure quality of care and focus on priority areas. Provides direct service delivery particularly in the management of patients with high viral load and patients with complicated HIV disease
Main duties
- Ensures proper functioning of ACHIEVE teams for quality of care in the selected sites and support teams in addressing all issues raised from field visits
- Participates in the development of innovative strategies for ART roll out and retention of patients
- Takes a lead in the CDC Site Monitoring Systems (SMS) visits to ensure site readiness and implementation of corrective measures for the sites assigned
- Works with teams in preparing activity reports and submit to relevant Directors as needed
- Ensures that regular, quality on-site service delivery and clinical mentoring for adult, paediatric, and PMTCT patients is provided by teams
- Provides onsite mentorship and service delivery (at least 90% of time will be spent in the clinics) to the medical officers/clinical officers and other health workers on HIV management
- Works closely with teams to monitor and improve adherence to guidelines and protocols
- Works with team to ensure patients’ rights and safety are maintained at all times
- Works with teams in providing appropriate referrals to other medical facilities or the University Teaching Hospital Advanced HIV Treatment Centre as required
- Provides supervision and advice in a professional and supportive manner to medical staff on HIV/ARV care, PMTCT, care of the HEI and other general medical conditions
- Participates in the organizing, coordinating and leading trainings in HIV management including lifelong antiretroviral therapy for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers (option B+)
- Reviews and updates all adult guidelines and algorithms as needed and update staff on the changes in collaboration with the supervisor
- Leads and supervises teams in respective facilities in preparing and submitting daily CIDRZ and CDC reports to the M&E department and Director HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment
- Follows up and engages PMO and DMO to address issues raised from field visits by team members
Qualifications
- Registered Medical Doctor
- Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) or equivalent (e.g. MSc, MS in a health science) with considerable experience desirable
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of adult (and paediatrics) HIV healthcare
- Demonstrated experience in health systems programming and/or health systems research
- Minimum 5 years of relevant clinical experience
- Proven team leadership skills and a team player
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
