Description
The incumbent is responsible for conducting and overseeing mentorship activities within the scope of work and providing support to the identified laboratories in Zambia as assigned. Recommends, develops and implements a focused mentorship program in order to sustain advances made towards accreditation or implementation of QMS in assigned international projects.
Main duties
- Provides training in QMS in accordance with internationally accepted standards of practice.
- Conducts Gap Analysis in assigned laboratories and analyzes the results to assist with development of plans to move laboratories forward in QMS, up to and including accreditation as desired.
- Liaises with Country Medical Laboratory Coordinators, Facility Medical Superintendents, Clinicians and Nurses to establish and strengthen the laboratory-clinical services interface including demand creation for various tests and interpretation of laboratory results.
- Contributes to the writing and editing of training materials, and those materials related to the implementation of high-quality laboratory practices on a global basis utilizing the initial work products by the collaborative efforts of the CDC (US) and CLSI.
- Ensures the quality of program and project activities and services.
- Works with the Project Head, PI and other GHP staff, establishing priorities, to ensure the quality and timely conduct of laboratory strengthening activities.
- Works with CLSI volunteers in executing QMS programs and activities.
- Reports on program and project activities as defined, noting opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences
- Atleast 5 years relevant working experience
- Experience in molecular biology techniques like viral load testing will be an added advantage.
- Familiarity with laboratory QMS, ISO 15189 standard and SLMTA through training and mentorship experience is essential.
- Training in laboratory mentoring skills and techniques will be an added advantage.
- Willing to travel across the country extensively for periods up to 4 weeks.
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of Zambia and in possession of a valid Practicing License
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
