Description

To offer overall leadership to the Quality Assurance Department and work closely with the DVC, Academic Registrar, Deans of Faculties and Heads of Departments to ensure the assurance of quality and standards in areas of teaching, learning, assessment, research and administrative procedures within the University in addition also covering key aspects of course development, course management, teaching, tutoring and the provision of advisory services

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

a) Initiate and develop the Strategic and Operational plans of the department.
b) Initiate and generate annual budget for the department that should be included in the University wide budget.
c) Initiate quality assurance guidelines and practices and make recommendations to Management and University Council as required.
d) Lead the development and oversee the implementation of University-wide Quality Assurance programmes
e) Oversee and coordinate course development focusing on curriculum development, pedagogy and instruction
f) Oversee course management initiatives undertaken by the University revolving around the planning of learning activities, course organisation, invigilation, grading and the posting of grades
g) Spearhead the assessment of course content delivery strategies
h) Coordinate tutoring support services at all faculties
i) Provide advisory services to members of senior management and support non-teaching activities
j) Initiate and develop the Human Resource Plan for the department and manage the performance and development of the department staff
k) Solicit for financial resources from Donors and other Funding agencies for Quality Assurance activities
l) Coordinate the process of accreditation of Academic Programmes of the University by Higher Education Authority (HEA) and other accreditation /Professional bodies
m) Coordinate students evaluation of teaching quality and standards and disseminate the findings to academic staff, management and other stakeholders
n) Develop performance indicators appropriate to quality assurance and improvement of internal quality assurance process for the development of guidelines for periodic reviews of existing programmes
o) Design quality standards and practices in the delivery of services at the University
p) Keep updated with output from Higher Education Authority (HEA) and other relevant professional bodies and make appropriate recommendations for implementation to ensure compliance with the relevant requirements
Perform any other duties commensurate with the position as assigned from time to time

Qualifications and Experience

i. PhD from a reputable University
ii. Honours Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in any discipline a must
iii. Teaching experience at a University for at least 8 (eight) years, with 3 (three) years at the level of a Senior Lecturer, and above
iv. Experience at as a Head of an Academic Department at a University highly desirable
v. Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, research, pedagogy and instruction at an institution of higher learning

Competencies and attributes

a) Working knowledge of International Standards Organizations (ISO)
b) Extensive knowledge of national and international quality trends in higher education
c) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
d) High level of computer literacy, with experience in the use of relevant packages and data analysis
e) Detailed working knowledge of Project Management and systems thinking
f) Knowledge of various University Management Systems
g) High level of integrity and professionalism
h) Accuracy and attention to detail
i) Ability to work well under pressure within timeframe
j) A positive attitude and ability to work with faculties and departments to form a functional team
k) Strong networking and relationship building capabilities
