VACANCY: Transmission & Planning Manager
LEVEL: Senior Manager
LOCATION: Lusaka, HQ
JOB PURPOSE:
To design, direct and control the delivery of Transmission Network by ensuring technical plans are converted from business objectives to deliver best quality at lower cost and innovative Capex productivity. This role ensures Airtel is the lowest cost producer and delivers +1 network experience continuously.
REPORTING TO THE NETWORKS DIRECTOR, THE MAIN DUTIES ARE:
1. Provide strategic inputs to group design, planning and optimization and Airtel CTO towards theformulation of Optimal network roadmaps
- Analyze Business Objectives and Convert them into technical plans.
- Define Airtel network evolution roadmap in line with group guidelines and local business strategy
- Co-ordinate across functions – Sales, Marketing, CSD, IT, SCM and Regulatory tounderstand business and regulatory needs
- Effective use of business intelligence data on network usage patterns
2. Managing Capex and Opex- financial
- Direct achievement of AOP targets
- Monitor the implementation of Transmission Network deployment plans/projects and direct compliance to budget
- Define and validate transmission network capex pla
- Define and validate quarterly OPEX budget plan
3. Ensuring Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance to applicable regulations and monitor availability of all relevant documentation, across relevant touch points
- Direct the transmission network spectrum usage strategy by ensuring only regulator allocated and approved spectrum is used and an up to date transmission GIS database ison hand
4. Support business and growth requirements
- Engage with business teams to understand functional needs/ business problems concerns and inform them of various network capabilities that can be harnessed
- Support the business teams in translating their functional needs to network specifications
5. Partner with SCM on vendor/partner management processes
- Collaborate with user departments to develop design specifications
- Provide specifications in line with Airtel network functional guidelines to SCM and evaluate offers and RFP responses from Vendors.
- Define SLA’s for internal processes and partners, monitor achievement of defined objectives
6. Build a capable and motivated team at Airtel to create a high-performance team environment
- Develop and motivate team members through structured training and on the job coaching and Recommend appropriate rewards and recognition
- Establish performance expectations and regularly review individual performance
FINANCIAL DIMENSIONS
- Annual transmission network Capex plan and budget.
- Quarterly transmission network Opex plan and budget (leased lines, spectrum fees etc...)
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Educational Qualifications & Functional / Technical Skills.
- Bachelor of engineering degree in Electrical & Electronics, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related fields from reputed institution.
- Sound knowledge of Mobile Network Planning, Optimization and O&M
- Proficiency in use of Pathloss microwave planning software and relevant GIS applications,fiber route planning using GIS tools
- Analytical and Presentation skills
- Negotiation skills
Relevant Experience (Type of experience and minimum number of years)
- 5-8 years of varied experience in Strategic design and planning, implementation, operation and maintenance in the Telecom industry
- 5 years managerial experience in a GSM/mobile company
- With at least 3 years senior management experience in an area of Transmission network Design and Optimization
