Description

Oversees the OPCO’s entire legal and regulatory function with objective of protecting the company’s interest. Responsible for setting the overall philosophy and strategy of the OPCO regarding legal and regulatory matters and ensuring that all practices, policies, and business activities of the OPCO fall within the bounds of the organization’s legal posture and compliance. Proactively manages and mitigates risks and opportunities in the Rwandese regulatory landscape and environment. Builds and maintains strong relationship with key regulatory, legal and government stakeholders.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Operate an efficient Legal  & Regulatory function, , supporting all other functions in the organization
  • Proactively overseeing and managing of all litigation matters concerning the company
  • Management of Company Secretariat & Compliance Functions
  • Achieve operational excellence to provide quality support to business by ensuring Legal compliance in all company activities
  • Build and manage the annual operating plans (AOPs) for the Legal & Regulatory function
  • Coordinate the engagement and assessment of external solicitors  and bodies, ensure proper management of tasks
  • Ensure internal compliance with all applicable regulatory prescriptions.
  • Advise Airtel Management on regulatory opportunities and risks, and developing appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Relationship Management with Regulatory Bodies and Associations.
  • Coordinate and manage relationships with Interconnect Partners.
  • Ensure compliance on all environmental issues and proactive measures to mitigate risk against company operations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s  Degree in Law
  • LL.M or a Masters in Business Administration would be an added advantage.
  • 10+  years with University Degree in law, with emphasis on corporate law and regulations, out of which at least 3+ years leadership and management experience in Telecommunications
  • Excellent knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to the OPCO and entire corporation
  • Able to handle, prioritize, multiple projects simultaneously
  •  IT literacy
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Able to operate in a performance driven organisation
  • Knowledge of English
