Technical Specialist / Senior Maternal and Reproductive Health Specialist at Abt Associates

Abt Associates, a mission-driven, global leader in research and program implementation in the fields of health, social and environmental policy, and international development, seeks qualified candidates for the anticipated USAID Zambia Family Health and Nutrition program to improve the capacity of the public health system to sustainably deliver quality reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health and nutrition services (RMNCAH&N) across four provinces of Zambia.

The Sr. Maternal and Reproductive Health Specialist will lead the design and execution of the maternal and reproductive health aspects of the project in collaboration with the Chief of Party (COP).  He/she will work with Central MOH technical counterparts to promote best practices in maternal and reproductive health interventions at the Central and subnational levels. This includes support to the MOH’s efforts to provide program leadership for implementation of best practices; support project Provincial Team Leads’ work at the subnational level to assist DHOs and PHOs to select and implement evidence-based, cost effective and high impact maternal and reproductive health interventions; work with the COP to build key technical partnerships, and represent the project in technical forums.. This position is based in Lusaka with extensive travel in Zambia. The position is contingent upon contract award to Abt Associates.

Preferred Skills / Prerequisites

• Medical Degree with at least 15 years of experience in maternal and reproductive health required; MPH preferred
• Demonstrated technical depth in health systems strengthening and maternal and reproductive health activities in Zambia or similar country settings
• Experience working with Zambia Ministry of Health strongly preferred
• Experience building and maintaining partnerships with other projects, local organizations, host country governments and international agencies
• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in English required
